Anya Kamenetz

Anya Kamenetz is a senior writer at Fast Company Magazine, where she writes the column Life in Beta about change. She is the author of a sequence of several books that have dramatically impacted the vision of the future of higher education and work. Generation Debt (Riverhead, 2006), dealt with generational economics and politics; DIY U: Edupunks, Edupreneurs, and the Coming Transformation of Higher Education, (Chelsea Green, 2010) investigated innovations in technology and social media to address the crises in cost, access, and quality in higher education. Her latest ebook, The Edupunks' Guide, (2011) is the first-ever sponsored by the Gates Foundation. Her work is closely associated with and referenced by Clayton Christensen and his colleagues dealing with Disruptive Innovation in Higher Education.

She was named a 2010 Game Changer in Education by the Huffington Post, received 2009 and 2010 National Awards for Education Reporting from the Education Writers Association, and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in Feature Writing by the Village Voice in 2005.

Ms. Kamenetz speaks around the country and often gives commentary on NPR and other news networks. She is serving on Strategic Initiatives project teams guiding colleges and universities in making serious commitments to unleashing the power of DIY learning and preparing for the jobs of the future. Her message and practical advice on taking responsibility for one’s personal, perpetual learning advances both radically alternative learning strategies and enhancements in traditional learning pathways. She graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Literature from Yale University.
