Communities of practice will prove to be the fundamental organizational building blocks of the Knowledge Age. Using social networking tools, tomorrow’s communities of practice will reshape the manner in which citizens, employees, professionals, and practitioners achieve, refresh, and extend their skills, competences, and socialization.

Strategic Initiatives works with our clients to nurture the development of communities of practice and to leverage the knowledge and collaborative resources created and maintained by these communities.  For fifteen years we have been developing communities of practice for professional societies, trade associations, universities, and commercial enterprises. We have guided clients in realigning their organizational structures to reflect the communities of practice that have arisen.  In our work with professional societies and trade associations, we have realigned the governance structure of the organization to focus on communities of practice.  We have also mobilized the association’s peer-to-peer networks to develop products, services, and experiences that are truly co-created by the members who utilize them. Strategic Initiatives incorporates the nurturing of communities of practice into our change management services.
